Gillette College forward Kenosha Wright goes up for a rebound during the Pronghorns' 58-55 victory over Miles CC

The Gillette College bigs came up big and heart pushed the Pronghorn women to a 58-55 victory over Miles Community College Saturday night at CCHS South Campus.

Iesha Greer was 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. Jordan Scott-Benson hauled in 14 rebounds and Kenosha Wright finished with eight points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

"This is a great win. I just told them to keep fighting," said Pronghorn assistant coach Adam Jacobson, who was running the team while head coach Will Rider served a one-game suspension.

"It was about heart, fighting and finishing a game."

Greer knocked two free throws to tie it at 51-51 with a little over three minutes remaining. It would be tied at 53 and again at 55 before Greer would knock down two more free throws for a 57-55 lead with 32 seconds

"The big thing we were saying, ‘don't panic,'" Wright said. "I have no idea where my shot block came from tonight, but they started changing their shot when they drove the lane."

The defensive play of the night was one of those heart things. Miles coach Lindsay Woolley called timeout to set the play, trailing by two with 20 seconds left. The Pronghorns forced a turnover on the five-second call.

"This was the best game of the year, because coach Rider had us so well prepared this week in practice," Jacobson said. "All I had to do was relay all of that information. I'm glad I don't have Coach Rider's job."

"I just told them to keep fighting."

The Pioneers (12-3, 1-1 in Region IX) sent Elisha Hensey, a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Las Vegas, to the line and she made 1-of-2 to make it a three-point differential with 2.6 seconds left. Jordyn Croft, who finished with 10 points and three assists, got a piece of the ball on the inbounds pass and Hensey held it as time ran out.

"Man, to get down twice and come back twice in the second half was great," Wright said.

Miles led 24-13 in the first half, but Wright's fifth shot block sent the Pronghorns on a 13-2 run to take the lead at the intermission, 28-24.

Miles regained control after trailing by four at the intermission, going on a 12-2 run to take a 37-30 lead on a Ivana Domljanovic runner with 16:22 left.

But Gillette (9-6, 2-0) chipped away with an interim coach at the helm and came away with the biggest win of the season, starting out the New Year on a positive note.

Greer finished with a team-high 14 points. Hensey had nine and Scott-Benson added seven,

Miles was led by Kassie Barta. who had 14 points, and Ivana Grbic, who finished with 12.
